There are these demos.
And I found a list at the bottom of the main libgdx documentation page and used it as a startting point for the list below. I haven’t verified yet whether their respective licensing is covered by the OSI Open source definition.
I am actively maintaining this list, so feel free to send me additions or corrections:
- Fly, a 3D game in outer space. Open source and available on Github (Android)
- Backyards Pirates, a fun Ludum Dare entry by Stefan Wagner (desktop, Android, WebGL)
- Pax Britannica, a port to libgdx, by Stefan Wagner (desktop, Android, WebGL)
- Aureas Oceanus, another Ludum Dare entry by Stefan Wagner (desktop)
- Freegemas, a port to libgdx by David Saltares (desktop, Android)
- Frogger, by Roger Engelbert
I have also asked for a more comprehensive list on the libgdx forum and on libgdx lead developer Mario Zechner’s blog.
this does not work

Awesome job, I really like your blog. If you want you can check out my game which i’ve just released. It’s using libGDX: [direct link to “bouncywheel” game on Google Play store deleted]
Hey George, I approved your comment but removed the direct link to your game on Google Play store. I don’t want to encourage link spam.
If your game is available as Open Source I will gladly add it to the list, with URL etc.
Thanks for you understanding. :)
other 3D games use libgdx : kungfugrandmaster by zahraworks.com
John, this list is about Open Source games. Is Kung fu Grandmaster Open Source? If so, where is the source code repository and what is the license?
I couldn’t find this information on your website, so I edited your comment and replaced the direct link to your game on Playstore with the name of the game.
Hi Oliver,
we are developing Fly, a 3D game of skill where you have to pass courses in outer space. It is available in the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.fau.cs.mad.fly.android
and fits in your list, because it is open source and available on Github: https://github.com/FAU-Inf2/fly-gdx.
Thanks! I added this to the list.
Does this game also work on regular Java desktop or as applet?
Yes it does. As we are developing it as a part of a student’s project, the primary target was to develop a mobile app. Nevertheless you can download the source code an run it on your local machine. We are working on Mac, Linux and Windows and it works on all of them. We have to think about if and how to publish a desktop version. Thanks for taking us in your list :)
